Facebook is signing up nearly a million new members a day, and now more than 70 percent of the service's members live overseas, in countries like Italy, the Czech Republic and Indonesia. Facebook's ranks in those countries swelled last year after the company offered its site in their languages.
The Pirate Bay's site has been upgraded to let those users with Facebook accounts share torrents, which are small information files that enable the download of content via the BitTorrent P-to-P (peer-to-peer) file-sharing network.
In order to let users share more content, Facebook publishes several bits of code that publishers and users can integrate in their own Web sites that allow for content-sharing on Facebook. Facebook receives some 260,000 video uploads per day, with 155,000 of them from webcams.
MySpace was visited by 124 million unique users last month, a decline of 2 per cent on January, according to the new figures.Facebook was accessible only by university students when it was set up in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, who was then studying at Harvard. It has grown in popularity since being opened to all internet users in 2006.
In overall, MySpace has been taken over by Facebook.
