Microsoft XP Update conflicts Internet Connection, Zone Alarm Released Fix Update.

Check Point Software Technologies released updated versions of all its Zone Alarm products, addressing an incompatibility with a patch Microsoft released for XP.

Check Point has issued a set of updates which correct a compatibility issue with the latest Microsoft update. The security firm has posted new versions of its Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite, Pro, Anti virus, Anti-Spy ware and Basic Firewall offerings. The updates correct an error caused by the Microsoft Patch.

In addition to Microsoft, the list of Internet system vendors affected by the flaw includes Apple, AT&T, Cisco, D-Link, IBM, and Intel.

A software update for the Windows operating system has left hundreds and thousands of computer users unable to access the internet.

The update, known as a "patch", conflicts with another piece of software, the Zone Alarms firewall, that many people use to protect their computers from hackers and viruses.

The patch, code named MS08-037, was designed to fix a security loophole in the way Windows handles web site addresses. It was discovered that there was a weakness with the operating system that could allow hackers to re-route legitimate web pages to malicious web sites instead, and leave Internet users open to fraud and viruses.
